TechCoop launches pilot sponsorship for weather index insurance

Weather index insurance pilot in Can Tho and Dong Thap
シェア:

TechCoop has launched a pilot sponsorship program for weather index insurance aimed at strengthening climate resilience among farmer cooperatives, thereby marking an important milestone for agricultural sustainability.

As climate risks become increasingly unpredictable, traditional insurance models often fall short in speed, accessibility and efficiency. This pilot introduces a parametric approach designed to deliver faster, more transparent and data-driven protection.

Pilot coverage was deployed across two key agricultural regions:

Dak Lak (Coffee)

  • Quyet Tien Agricultural & Service Cooperative
  • Hiep Hoa Village, Quang Hiep Commune, Cu M’gar District
  • Coverage periods:
    • Growing season: September 2025 – October 2025
    • Harvest season: November 2025 – January 2026
    • Flowering season: January 2025 – April 2026

Dong Thap (Rice)

  • Tan Binh Agriculture Cooperative – Tan Phu B Hamlet, Tan Long Commune
  • Coverage period: September – November 2025

Payouts are automatically triggered when cumulative rainfall exceeds pre-defined thresholds, based on objective weather data – eliminating the need for manual loss assessments and reducing delays.

This approach addresses a critical gap in agricultural risk management: delivering fast, transparent financial protection to farmers who have historically been underserved by traditional insurance products.

Building on the early pilots, TechCoop plans to continue to expand and integrate similar solutions during 2026 and beyond, strengthening climate resilience across Vietnam’s farming communities.
